“Horsemanship is the art of mastering our own movements, thoughts, emotions and behaviours. Not the horse’s.”

Melissa and Adam are the founders and owners of Coach Hill Equestrian Centre. With much success through experience, they have designed Coach Hill to run efficiently as possible for optimal & quality care for every horse.
Adam is a certified builder, in which his team and him built Coach Hill. From completely renovating the entire main barn and indoor arena, to creating the excellent wood fencing turnouts.
Melissa was born into an equestrian involved family. She participated in pony clubs and schooling competitions from the age of six. Melissa took care of horses on her family’s hobby farm from the age of eleven. She excels in the hunter/jumper, equitation and dressage disciplines.
Melissa thrives on maintaining her education and believes that learning and furthering her knowledge is crucial in the equine industry. She is a rider level 8, studying to attain levels 9 & 10, and is a certified Equestrian Canada Coach.
Melissa competed on the Trillium and A circuit and showed the local/regional Dressage circuit. She was fortunate to work with a variety of horses, training, catch riding and learning under great coaches. She took to starting (breaking) young horses under excellent guidance at a young age.
Multiple horses that have passed through Melissa’s training and brokerage programs are successful all over North America, including horses competing at Preliminary Level to being successful at the World Equestrian Centre, Caledon Equestrian Park, Tryon International Equestrian Center and more.
Melissa found her passion strongly laid with understanding the biomechanics and dynamics of training the horse, which lead to the biomechanics of horse and rider as a team. 11 years ago she started coaching beginners and grew her clientele coaching for large barns from beginners up to advanced hunter/jumpers.
Melissa’s initial step to training teams follows the Classical Training Pyramid to achieve balance & rhythm, suppleness, contact and straightness. She focuses on teaching riders to expand into the dynamics of lateral work, impulsion, and connection through footwork, gymnastics and lateral exercises to aim for quality gaits and self carriage.
Melissa is an insured coach & trainer with Henry Equestrian. Melissa works with all ages and abilities; anxious or nervous riders; and has excellent confidence-building techniques, bio-mechanic tactics and positive reinforcement training to help achieve growth and success with equine partnerships.
